CONTEMPORARY HOUSE EXTENSION IN SHEFFIELD
Status - Planning Approved
The client requested a new, contemporary two-storey house extension in Sheffield.
The brief was to provide a new open plan kitchen, dining, living space at ground floor, with a new master bedroom at first floor.
The brief was to create an extension which complimented the existing, stone building, whilst creating something which is clearly an addition to the existing.
The key principles to the design were to not damage the existing architectural features of the existing building, such as the stone quoins and coping. As such, the proposal sits up to and abuts the existing property, visually separating the proposal from the existing with the use of a recessed 'hinge'. Timber cladding is used to match the tones of the existing stone and provide a softness and a contrast to the existing stone.
